Xasperating Xenial xsane
I had the same problem as this user, namely that my Epson scanner, which had worked fine with xsane 0.998 x Ubuntu 14.04, seemed to be invisible to xsane 0.999 x Ubuntu 16.04.
I followed the steps in this article which fixed the problem.
